New private residential projects awarded
The market for the supply and installation of natural stone for private residential houses remains reasonably buoyant and Stone Connection's track record of providing a bespoke design, consultancy and fixing service in this sphere has led to the award of two prestigious contracts in the Yorkshire area.
Both are new build developments on green field sites. The first, near Sheffield, is constructed in 100mm Stoke Hall sandstone - a high quality, buff coloured, Derbyshire gritstone used extensively in the area. The plannng rules called for a special machine broached finish to the external ashlar walls, to match a nearby listed building and this is complemented by feature rubbed ashlar window and door surrounds, a traditionally styled portico and a splendid terrace balustrade - all to Architect Dixon Dawson's design.
The second property is near Huddersfield and features 140mm Crosland Hill Yorkstone in 95mm high courses with a unique shot sawn finish. This is constructed in conjunction with large section plain and moulded ashlar stonework with a fine rubbed finish - a trademark of the Architects One 17 Design. Stone Connection will also be undertaking the supply and installation of all the internal stonework in granite, limestone and sandstone.
With a combined value of over £1.20 million these projects are a notable addition to the company's portfolio of work and amply illustrate the prestige natural stone can bring to any private residential scheme.

Training, Training, Training!
Young people need the chance to train to gain vocational qualifications - particularly in the construction industry where skills shortages are becoming evermore apparent.
Three of Stone Connection's 'younger' employees are currently engaged in programme-led apprenticeships, supported by CITB, North Yorkshire County Council and Selby College.
Sam Tree (20) has already successfully completed a 3 year course in Stonemasonry at York College, gaining an NVQ Level III Advanced award. He has now embarked upon a day-release course at Leeds College of Building - in Construction & the Built Environment - which will lead to a higher level technical qualification to further complement his trade skills.
Craig Marrison (20) started life as a general operative on site, assisting our fixer masons and is now attending the Stonemasonry course at York College on a block release basis under the CITB Construction Apprenticeship Scheme. This training will further advance his site skills and allow him to become a qualified banker and fixer mason at NVQ Level III standard.
In the office Nikki Tomlinson (19) has successfully completed her NVQ Level II qualification in Business Administration - under an Apprenticeship scheme run by Selby College - and is well on her way to achieving her Level III award. Anyone who calls Stone Connection will generally speak to Nikki in the first instance as she expertly deals with reception, along with her other duties.
Stone Connection is committed to providing on-going training for all its staff and aims to provide opportunity and support to those wishing to expand their knowledge and skill base in their chosen field.
